26. June 2011 | Official commissioning of the SBR treatment plant Helmstadt - Holzkirchhausen More than 500 citizens of the medieval town of Helmstadt came to the grand opening of the water treatment plant after a three year renewal phase.
After the speech of Mayor Edgar Martin, the plant was blessed by Pastoral Zoeller and officially placed in operation.
The excellent water quality at the end of the wastewater treatment process was pointed out by an official of the Water Agency Aschaffenburg.
The company KUHN GmbH conducted a significant share of the project with an order volume of more than 1.1 million €. The complete technical equipment including the electrical measuring and control technology as well as the heat pump system with over 500 meter brine pipe into the basins were made by KUHN. During the guided tours through the facilities, many of the visitors were surprised about the cleanliness of the processes in a wastewater treatment plant.
The following technical equipment was supplied by KUHN:
Mechanical Engineering: • A new grit washing system KUHN KSW-T / RW in the screening chamber • The complete pipeline technology with many manual and electrical slide valves, ball taps and valves • The equipment of the new SBR plant (MID-bay, Auxiliary circulation shaft, SBR1-3, drainage manhole, outlet storage, throttle slide valve shaft) • The technical equipment of the old plant (Feed storage, mud rack cell, sludge liquor pit, sludge liquor storage, sludge storage) • 12 pumps for water and sewage sludge • 11 agitators • 3 clear water decanter • 4 large blowers and ventilation equipment SBR • The water system operating • The new polymer feedstation with flakes reactor • The centrifuge plant for sludge • The crane on the roof of the new company building
Electrical measurement, control and regulation technology: • The new switching system consisting of 21 cabinets, produced by KUHN. (Low-voltage main distribution, switchboards SBR, biology, process control, control engineering, metrology, Building distribution, UPS and connection to the old system) • The Subdivision Control Units o.g. machines (including stainless steel pillars) • The cable laying systems and wiring for all the above Machinery • The complete electrical installation (lighting, emergency lighting, electrical outlets, fans) • The intermediate floor and the air conditioner of the switching room • The UPS (uninterruptible power supply) • The measurement is originate from KUHN: (Level measurements (ultrasonic, pressure), MIDs (magnetic inductive flow measurement), temperature measurements, pH measurements, measurements of oxygen, turbiditymetry, pressure and flow monitoring, flood reports, Samplers, voltage monitoring) • The furniture in the control room • The computer, networking, process control, telemetry and fiber optic technology (hardware and software) • The PLC technology including touch panel (hardware and software) • The large-screen visualization • The telephone equipment (PBX, gate openers and door intercom) • The grounding, surge protection and lightning protection system • Also integrated were aggregates and reports from the stock in the new system
The commissioning work and the trial run was carried out by specialists of KUHN. The wastewater treatment plant was in operation during the entire modification period.

On 08th April was officially upgraded waterworks Otterndorf commissioned. The water plant is operated by the star.Energiewerken (the utility company Stadtwerke Rastatt) and ensures the future for the entire city for available, high quality drinking water with a hardness of only 10 ° dH (previously approximately 18 ° dH). This were to include two 10-meter rapid softening fluidized bed reactors, and mounted a limewater dosing system. Weeks were therefore to work to 8 of our installers and commissioning engineers with great dedication and commitment to the system. As it has been confirmed, however, both from the engineering firm Alwin Eppler, Dornstetten, and by the client on the day of the official start like that KUHN Ltd. has mastered this task with bravery.

Just now, in the cold season, the company staff of sewage arrangements appreciates well heated company rooms and social rooms. Also the possibility to be able to take a hot shower after dirty and cold outside applications is more than only one hygienic necessity. Customary heating systems and fossil fuels are usually used for the heating and hot-water preparation to sewage arrangements. This raises the company expenses and the CO2 output. At best it is burnt if a decayed tower exists even generated gas or the rejected heat of a total energy unit is used.
Besides, big energy amounts flow day by day absolutely unnoticed into every sewage arrangement and, after flow of the process, also again unused out. Now, in winter, it shows his efficiency.
Already after establishment of the shell were moved in the end of 2009 approx. 540 m of brine management in 3 washbasins and then were poured in in the profile concrete. This year the warm production was also installed in the course of the equipment of the sewage arrangement. Here appeared once more the efficiency and flexibility of KUHN. By our scope of business “house technology” we had not only good contacts with the suitable suppliers, here the famous company Stiebel-Eltron, but also all experts necessary for the conversion in own house.
From the consultation of the project manager about the choice of the suitable components up to assembly and introduction of the whole arrangement: the specialists who supply, otherwise houses, schools and barracks with trendsetting heating technology have used here her skill for a modern sewage arrangement.
